Employers are offering increasingly flexible working patterns to cope with new demands placed on over-stretched mothers but there is an imbalance between being prosperous at work and an attentive mother. Currently 49% of women earning more than £100,000 a year were childless at 40 and of those with children a third use some form of flexible working pattern to accommodate their busy family lives. In the 21st century why are a child’s needs placed above a woman’s desire for professional success, why can’t children be more flexible?
